The University of Florida's president has asked for a state probe of campus police actions after a student was Tasered during a forum featuring Senator John Kerry.

The president says the forcible takedown of 21-year-old Andrew Meyer was "regretful." He has placed two officers on leave.

Kerry says he has never had a dialogue end that way in 37 years of public appearances. He tells The Associated Press, whatever happened, the police made their decision that there was something they needed to do.

During the altercation, Kerry is heard saying, "let me answer his question." Meyer can be heard crying out to a police officer, "Don't Tase me, bro."

Meyer has been released from jail on his own recognizance. The State Attorney's Office has yet to decide on formal charges.
