Discount Broker

A brokerage house featuring relatively low commission rates in comparison to a full-service broker.

A brokerage firm that offers lower commission rates than a full-service broker, but does not offer services such as advice, research, and portfolio planning.

Additional Comments:

A discount broker (E*TRADE is one example) allows you to make all your own investment decisions. These brokers have the lowest commission rates of the three broker types, but they may not offer you investment advice.
